ENG 099 Lesson 4 of KCCoC Spring 2012 Session After Action Review

Author’s Note: This is a review of lesson 4 of my Spring 2012 Session classes at the Korean Cultural Center of Chicago for adult ELLs.

12 April 2012
ENG 099 Lesson 4
KCCoC Spring Session 2012

What was supposed to happen?

Lead class focused on continuing to read USA History in Brief.

What happened?

  • Reviewed work done in Spring Session 2012 lessons 1 to 3.
  • New sentences: “Did you celebrate Easter?” and “How did you celebrate Easter?”
  • Discussion About Easter Holiday
  • Read pages 1 to 4 of USA History in Brief.
    • Sidetracked briefly to explore the origins of “Bless You” on Wikipedia. We were sure to note that Wikipedia is a helpful resource, but you need to be careful about trusting it completely.

What was right and wrong about what happened?

Right: Patient with student as he worked his way through difficult words in the reading and abstract ideas (i.e. “Through compromise and change, the country has grown, prospered, and made progress toward its ideals.”).

Wrong: Would have been better if I had a published lesson plan online prior to class, for students to read over for preparation and for me to get feedback from my Personal Learning Network.

How will it be done better next time?

Have lesson 5’s plan published online by Tuesday, April 17th 2012.
