Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary defines Parenthetic as “1. A word, phrase, or sentence, by way of comment or explanation, inserted in, or attached to, a sentence which would be grammatically complete without it.” In other words, something extra added to the sentence, not necessary for survival.

Why is “My brother you will be pleased to hear, is now in perfect health,” incorrect, and “In 1769, when Napoleon was born, Corsica had but recently been acquired by France.” Correct?
